According to researches, the communities first started to live in Kastamonu in 50000 BC. The first community living in Kastamonu is Paflagonians. In the following years, Kastamonu been a city of Kaska State. But due to its geographical location, the Hittites tried to conquer Kastamonu many times. And finally, Kastamonu was conquered by the Hittite kingdom.
After the Hittite Kingdom, Kastamonu has been a city of the Phrygian kingdom. Later Lydia and Persian kingdoms respectively conquered Kastamonu. In the 1st century BC, Kastamonu was conquered by the Roman Empire. And for many years, Kastamonu has been a city of Roman and Byzantine empires.
In 1227, Kastamonu was conquered by the Turks. In the following years, Kastamonu changed hands many times between the Turkish states. In 1461, Kastamonu was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. After the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, Kastamonu has been a city of the Republic of Turkey.
