Until 1919, Maras was controlled by the Ottoman state. But after the First World War, the French began to invade Maras. But the people of Maras started a resistance against the French. And although they are few in numbers, the people of Maras have shown great resistance. And after his agreement with France to Turkey in 1920, the French were removed from Maras. And with the law coming in 1973, the name of Maras was changed to Kahramanmaras because of the great resistance that its people showed.
