In the 2nd and 3rd centuries, the city of Hasankeyf changed hands many times between the Byzantine Empire and the Sassanids. The city of Hasankeyf became the center of the Syriac bishopric in later years. Hasankeyf city has been a very important city until the 17th century. But since then, the city of Hasankeyf has lost its importance due to the change of tcaret roads.
