The first life traces in Antep, city, date back to the Paleolithic era. But Antep was first used as a city by the Babylonians.
In 1700 BC Antep was conquered by the Hittites. But later Antep was conquered by Egyptians, Med's, Assyrians, Persians, Selevkos, Komagene's and Romans. The reason why Antep is so important is Antep, in the route on Silk Road. And that is why Antep is a developed and rich city.
In 395 the city began to be controlled by the Byzantines. But in 636, Antep was conquered by the Arabs to spread Islam. And the people of Antep began to become Muslims.
In 1071, Antep was conquered by the Seljuks. But the attacks continued on Antep because Antep is a rich city. And Antep was conquered by Eyyübi, Mongol, Dulkadiroğlu and Mameluk states respectively.
In 1516, Antep was conquered by the Ottoman state. And many new buildings have been built in Antep especially by the Ottoman architecture. And Antep has always been an important city for the Ottoman Empire.
In 1920, after the first world war, Antep was left under the control of the French. But the people of Antep have started a resistance against the French. And the people of Antep had fought against the French even though they were few in number for 10 months. French state in 1921, has left the Antep. Antep, began to be governed by the Republic of Turkey. And the name of the city of Antep was changed to Gaziantep because to the great resistance they showed against France.
