According to research, the Hurrians first lived in Erzincan. Erzincan was later conquered by the Hittites. There are many works of Hittites in Erzincan.
Erzincan is ruled by the Urartian kingdom after the Hittites. But when the Urartian kingdom was weakened, Erzincan was conquered by the Medes. In 550 BC, the Persians conquered Erzincan.
In 70 BC, Erzincan was conquered by the Roman Empire. But in the following years, Arabs and Iranians tried to conquer Erzincan. And Erzincan changed hands many times between these three kingdoms.
In 1473, Erzincan was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. After the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, Erzincan has been a city of the Republic of Turkey.
