Hurris lived in Elazig in 2000 BC for the first time. Then Elazig was conquered by the Hittites. But it was soon conquered by the Urartians. Elazig was ruled by the Urartian kingdom for many years. And many works have been made by Urartians to Elazig.
Elazig was later conquered by the Romans. But for many years Elazig changed hands between the Romans and the kingdom of Pontus. After the 7th century, Elazig was conquered by the Arabs. But then the Byzantine Empire, Elazig was taken back.
In 1080 the Turks began to rule Elazig. And Elazig changed hands among many Turkish principalities. In 1516, Elazig was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. After the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, Elazig has been a city of the Republic of Turkey.
