We are a few days away from Christmas, and although this is a time of joy and celebration, it is also a season that tends to generate mixed feelings in some people, particularly among those who for some reason or another, are going through a bad time in their personal finances, or as a result of a separation. However, it is also a time of hope, of illusions, of believing in themselves, of believing that no matter how dark the tunnel they are currently in, there will always be a light at the end of it.

In this sense, I have selected for this week, like the two previous ones, a trio of themes from different artists, but which have in common their theme around the celebrations of the month of December, particularly Christmas.

Now, without further ado, I invite you to relax and enjoy the musical selection that I share today on this platform.

Estamos a poco días de la Navidad, y si bien, esta es una fecha de alegría y celebración, también es una temporada que suele generar sentimientos encontrados en algunas personas, particularmente entre aquellos que por alguna razón u otra, están pasando por un mal momento en sus finanzas personales, o como consecuencia de una separación. Sin embargo, es también tiempo de esperanza, de ilusiones, de creer en sí mismos, de creer que por más oscuro que sea el túnel en el que se encuentran actualmente, siempre habrá una luz al final del mismo.

En este sentido, he seleccionado para esta semana, al igual que las dos anteriores, un trío de temas de diversos artistas, pero que tienen en común su temática en torno a las celebraciones del mes de Diciembre, particularmente la Navidad.

Thank God It's Christmas - Queen

Thank God It's Christmas is the title of a Christmas single released by the British rock band, Queen, in November 1984.

Composed by Brian May and Roger Taylor, the song spent six weeks in the UK singles charts, where it managed to reach the number 21 position.

The track was not initially included on any of the group's studio albums, appearing only on the compilation album Greatest Hits III, released in 1999, and as the B-side to the single A Winter's Tale from the band's fifteenth and final studio album, entitled Made in Heaven from 1995.

However, the track was eventually included on the bonus EP that would come with the deluxe edition of their album The Works, remastered and re-released in 2011. No promotional video clip was ever filmed for the song either.

Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid

Do They Know It's Christmas? is a song written by Irish singer, songwriter and political activist Bob Geldof, who appeared as an actor in the film The Wall based on the album of the same name by progressive rock band Pink Floyd and Scottish musician Midge Ure in 1984, to raise funds to alleviate the severe famine in Ethiopia. The original version was recorded by Band Aid, a union of British and Irish musicians, in November 1984.

Previously, in October of that year, a disturbing report had been broadcast on the screens of the British television station BBC, showing the terrible ravages caused by the famine that was hitting the Ethiopian people, a country located in the so-called "Horn of Africa".

Bob Geldof saw the report and had the idea of raising money, for which he called Midge Ure of the British new wave band Ultravox, and together they wrote in a short time the song, which would later become one of the anthems, along with the song We Are the World, composed by American musicians Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, of the legendary concert "Live Aid" held in 1985 for the same purpose.

Geldof attended a radio interview in November of that year, but instead of talking about his new album, he used his airtime to promote his idea of a charity single, at a time when media interest was focused on the plight of the Ethiopian people.

Geldof was able to assemble a group called Band Aid, made up of the most popular British and Irish singers of the day. On November 25, 1984, the song would be recorded at Sarm West Studios in London and released just eight days later.

Among the various artists involved in the original recording of the song were: Adam Clayton and Bono of the Irish band U2, Phil Collins of Genesis, John Taylor, Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran, George Michael of Wham!, Boy George of Culture Club, Sting of The Police, among many others.

Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley

Blue Christmas is a Christmas song written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson, particularly remembered for the version performed by "The King" Elvis Presley. It is a story of unrequited love during the Christmas vacations and is a staple of Christmas music, especially in the country genre.

Presley would cement this song as a Christmas season classic by recording it with rock and roll arrangements for his third studio album, entitled Elvis' Christmas Album. The original 1957 version was released as a single that would first become commercially available in 1964.

This song was also a hit in the UK, reaching number 11 on the UK Singles Chart for the week of December 26, 1964.

In late December 2018, the single would be certified in the UK with a Silver Award for sales in excess of 200,000 copies.
