Very probably at some point in your life, you have read or heard that famous phrase of Albert Einstein, where he said that "life is like riding a bicycle: to keep your balance, you must keep moving ", and the renowned German-born physicist was right.

The bicycle was introduced at the beginning of the 19th century, and after constantly evolving, it became what we know today, to such an extent that it is currently the main means of transportation in many parts of the world, particularly in the most populated European cities, which have devoted themselves to the construction of bicycle paths to replace the use of combustion vehicles, and consequently, reduce the atmospheric and acoustic pollution that these vehicles tend to generate.

In addition to the many health benefits of cycling, it is also the most suitable means of transport for short to medium distances. However, outside Europe, it is common to see cyclists, whether athletes or people commuting to their places of study or work, zigzagging or doing acrobatics between vehicles to avoid being run over by drivers, since the vast majority of cities in the rest of the world lack roads specially designed for the use of bicycles.

In this photograph from my personal archive, it is possible to observe the younger of my two sons learning to ride a bicycle under the instructions of my nephew who is standing to the side. Since then, more than a decade has passed since the day I took this picture during a school vacation, and that pair of children who had not yet reached their teenage years are now college students.

Muy probablemente en algún momento de tu vida, has leído o escuchado aquella célebre frase de Albert Einstein, donde afirmaba que "la vida es como montar en bicicleta: para conservar el equilibrio, debes mantenerte en movimiento", y no le faltaba razón al reconocido físico de origen alemán.

La bicicleta se introdujo a principios del Siglo XIX, y luego de evolucionar constantemente, se transformó en lo que conocemos hoy en día, a tal punto, que actualmente es el principal medio de transporte en muchas partes del mundo, particularmente en las ciudades europeas más pobladas, que se han abocado a la construcción de ciclovías para sustituir el uso de vehículos de combustión, y en consecuencia, reducir la contaminación atmosférica y acústica que suelen generar estos.

Además de los múltiples beneficios que brinda a la salud la práctica del ciclismo, es también el medio de transporte más adecuado para recorridos cortos o medianos. Sin embargo, fuera de Europa, es común ver a los ciclistas, bien sean deportistas o personas trasladándose a sus centros de estudio o de trabajo, zigzagueando o haciendo acrobacias entre los vehículos para evitar ser atropellados por los conductores, por cuanto la gran mayoría de las ciudades del resto del mundo carecen de vías especialmente diseñadas para el uso de bicicletas.

En esta fotografía perteneciente a mi archivo personal, es posible observar al menor de mis dos hijos, aprendiendo a montar bicicleta bajo las instrucciones de mi sobrino que se encuentra a un lado. Desde entonces, ha pasado más de una década desde el día en que tomé esta imagen durante unas vacaciones escolares, y aquel par de niños que aún no alcanzaban la adolescencia; son en la actualidad aventajados estudiantes universitarios.
