Hello my dear people of the artistic community, happy Friday for all of you who are here today reading my post and I hope you are doing well, welcome once again to my art blog; I had already several days drawing on various topics such as magic, forest, warriors, etc, and I needed to do something a little different to refresh the mind and ideas a little, and so I decided to orient myself slightly towards the theme of melancholy or sadness. Today's drawing is one that I decided to title (Just One More Tear), and in it I dedicated myself to capture a pretty young woman whom I named Florencia (Flower), which is shown immersed in a great sadness that for some reason can not or can not get out of his soul and heart, so she is forced to express that sadness or melancholy through her tears:
PROCESS / PROCESO
To start with my drawing what I did was to look for a suitable structure for the sketch and it occurred to me that it would be best to make a kind of drawing more like a portrait style, based on that idea I began to draw (Flor) in a pose a little to his left side, with his right arm a little raised while holding in his hand a cigarette; all this while a sad look pointed towards the sky. The coloring process was quite simple, I concentrated on finding in my color palette the right shades to convey what I had in mind for this character, for the skin for example I used a pale salmon color that would make it easier to add more saturated colors later; for the eyes I used gray for the eyeball and a bit of scarlet red for the lips.
I decided to do the skin work in at least 4 different layers, taking the base color as a reference, what I did was edit a little on the color wheel to obtain slightly darker tones for the less illuminated areas and for the areas with a lot of light. shadows and darkness as in the chin, the eye socket, neck, etc; After having established the shadows I dedicated myself to creating the illuminated areas with much brighter and warmer tones than the base, the joke in this part is to achieve a harmony of strokes and then mix them and thus achieve a much more natural skin and realistic. Having the base of the skin more or less ready, the next thing was to add a little blush to Flor's cheeks with the airbrush, for this I used the brush at low opacity and I only blended slightly since this brush is soft in itself ; then the iris of the eyes I worked with a slightly dark olive green color and little by little I was illuminating it to make the eyes look a little more alive, along with slight shines and sparkles.
For the hair I was very clear from the beginning what I wanted to do and that was to create a reddish-orange hair very Irish style, this type of hair color I have always liked a lot and I thought it would suit Flor very well for what she transmits; first I was creating more or less loose strokes and then with the watercolor brush and the eyedropper tool I was making strokes from the lightest to the darkest areas, and once I got there I used the eyedropper again to take the dark tones from there and created new strokes over the light tones and so I managed to have a better relief in the hair. The painting of the clothing I wanted it to be something quite simple, that's why I decided to paint a kind of blouse a little transparent or translucent in intense violet color, for this I used the multiply layer mode and lowered 20% the opacity so that this blouse was coupled to the skin, but without disappearing completely.
After finishing with the above and before finishing with my drawing it occurred to me that I could add some texture or patterns to Flor's blouse, and what I did was to create a kind of patterns of scales or snakeskin perhaps, and attach them on the dress using again the multiply mode; and then I only dedicated myself to give color and shape to the cigarette in Flor's hand with a lot of gray, white and a little red. Finally I created the tears coming out of Flor's eyes using a fine brush and gray color, basically I painted irregular lines to give shape to the tears and then I blurred them a little to better fit them to the skin, while at the same time I was adding slight shines and lights to the tears; finally, I corrected some slight details here and there, and I painted what would be the soft trail of smoke that the cigarette produces when it is lit.
