Heading down the Carmans river in Shirley, Long Island, NY. Detouring around a big Island in the river. You can easily get around at High tide. Lets see what we find.

This is a side branch and narrows down before you turn back to the river.



It was a windy day but nice and protected here. I spotted a Muskrat but he/she didn't stick around for a portrait.




Now we are back on the river where the big boys hang. I'm talking about the Osprey. Couldn't get any decent pictures of them flying overhead but did get some sitting on their nest.

These birds can have a wingspan of 5 feet / 1.52 m. I know it's far away, I'm new at this. :-)


These birds come back from South America to the same nests. They rebuild and make them bigger each year.This one in the dead tree won't last long. Poles with platforms are installed in certain places that should last a bit longer.
