I was on my computer, which is on the second floor of my house, with my cat Curly on my lap, when we were startled by a piercing bang. Curly jumped down and ran to the south of the house to investigate. I first thought it was one of the other nine cats. But figured it must have been a bird. They are always banging into the windows. I didn't give it much thought so went back to Steemit.
After I got my Steemit fix I started down the stairs and remembered about the bang. Halfway down is a landing with a window. I looked out the window and there was a dark small bird laying face down in the snow.
He/she was on the canopy roof of my outside door. I will call the bird a "he". He looked quite lifeless. A lot of these birds hit the windows so hard they break their necks unfortunately.
I opened the window and gave him a little push to one side. To my surprise the bird lifted it's head and became conscience. The bad news was the temperature was about 15 F, but he did have a sunny day.
When I pushed him over there was some blood or bird turd that was under him. Maybe a little of both. He was conscience but in no shape to move. Nothing much I could do. Bringing him in the house with 10 cats just wouldn't work. For a small bird it was a loud bang, so I figured this little guy was seeing his last day.
I decided to leave him there and check on him later.
When I came back, just before it started to get dark, I was quite pleased to see birdie gone. I opened the window to see if he had crawled out of sight and died on the canopy. This is what I saw.
Bird prints in the snow. Showing he hopped three and half times before flying off. Lucky little guy.
Pays not to be so serious!
