That place would be the old graveyard in the town of Jamesport, L.I. NY...
This is an old graveyard by American standards with many generations visiting their departed loved ones. It's only about two acres big, between a gas station on one side and a popular restaurant, right on main street in the little town.
The unusual thing on the grounds are the many Prickly Pear that have taken over about a third of the area. Someone must have planted a cactus many years ago knowing it would flower in late June. Perhaps when a relative died or was born....
Unfortunately the cactus is growing amongst the grass which is regularly mowed.
But my hunch is there must be some blooms coming out since mine came out yesterday.... And they can be found where the lawn-mower couldn't get to.
Sure enough there are blooms sprinkled about near tombstones and hard to reach places... I'm am lucky because the flower's brilliance only lasts for one day, though you will see it the second day it is not as spectacular and on the third day it has wilted...
Many more buds to open on this group. Maybe tomorrow or the next day...
This headstone is unrecognizable but the beauty of the Prickly Pear flower persists...
