Splinterlands Grim Bonewhip | A Powerful Melee Reach Monster
Hello my fellow Splinterlands Warriors,
Welcome back to another fresh and juicy Splinterlands post, and I hope all of you are doing pretty well in your lives and enjoying another amazing day with your family and friends while eagerly waiting for the upcoming weekend. Now, for those of you who are actively engaging in this Web3 game, I hope you are actively playing in this ongoing ranked and frontier season as well, and if we take a quick look at the season timer, the current ranked season still has around 11 days and 9 hours remaining, so there is still plenty of time for us all to continue battling, collect rewards and work toward our own season goals. Whether it is to steadily make progress and reach your goal league tier or secure a seat in the top champion leaderboard. With more than a week still left in the season, there is definitely enough time to experiment with different cards and lineups and try to push your goal a little higher if everything goes well.
Now, talking about my own progress in the Frontier mode, As usual, I am currently battling in the highest Gold I league, and my target for this season is to reach 2,880 trophies and I still have some battles ahead of me before reaching that goal. Looking at the weekly raffle progress, I currently have 30 raffle entries collected. There are around 2 days and 18 hours remaining before the raffle ends, and my target is to reach somewhere between 54 and 57 entries.
Today's Frontier Daily Wheel also gave me some Frontier Energy. Today marks my 124th consecutive streak day, so the daily streak is continuing nicely. My current total Sparks balance stands at 17,492. The balance has decreased quite a bit recently, as I bought 3 card skins from the Sparks shop and I am continuing to collect the rewards from the Frontier Wheel. Hopefully, the upcoming days will bring some more useful rewards and help me build up the balance again.
Apart from that, today I also opened 5 Foundation Packs that I earned from the last two days' rewards. This time, I managed to get 1 Legendary, 3 Epic cards, and 5 Rare cards, while the remaining cards were Common cards. Getting a Legendary along with three Epics from only five packs was definitely a pretty interesting opening and hopefully the next few packs will bring some more good surprises.
Grim Bonewhip
Now moving on to today's featured monster, let us take a closer look at another interesting monster from the newest Reward card set. As you have already seen in the title above, today we will be discussing Grim Bonewhip. So, if you are interested in knowing more about this powerful Melee Reach monster, then let's take a deep dive without any further ado.
Grim Bonewhip is a monster type card that comes from the Death element and belongs to the Dwarf bloodline. It is a common type card, so you would require a total of 400 cc cards to upgrade it to max level. It costs only 5 mana to deploy and uses Melee attacks, so you can easily fit this card in your lineup when playing low to medium mana limit matches. At maximum level, this monster possesses four different abilities, giving it a useful combination of offensive power, team support, and enemy debuff abilities. This makes it a very interesting low-mana monster that can contribute both directly through its own attacks and indirectly by supporting the rest of the team. Let us now take a closer look at its stats and abilities across different leagues.
BRONZE
At Level 3, Grim Bonewhip possesses 2 Melee attack, 1 Speed, and 4 Health. Even at this level, it already comes with two useful abilities called REACH and RUST.
REACH – Can use Melee attacks from the second position.
RUST – Reduces the Armor of all enemy units by 2.
SILVER
At Level 3, grim bonewhip improves to 2 Melee attack and 2 Speed while maintaining 4 Health. At this stage, it unlocks another useful team-support ability called SWIFTNESS.
SWIFTNESS – Gives +1 Speed to all allied units.
GOLD
At Level 8, grim bonewhip reaches 3 Melee attack and 3 Speed while its Health increases to 5. Although it does not gain a new ability at this stage, the improvement in its attack, Speed, and Health makes it much more effective on the battlefield.
DIAMOND / CHAMPION
At Level 10, Grim Bonewhip reaches its maximum form with 3 Melee attack, 3 Speed, and 6 Health. At maximum level, it unlocks its final ability called EXECUTE.
EXECUTE – If the target has 2 or less Health after a successful attack, it performs another attack on the same unit.
I think Grim Bonewhip is a very useful monster in Death Element, especially considering that it costs only 5 mana. First of all, for such a low mana cost, getting a decent Melee attack, useful Speed, and a reasonable amount of Health is already a good deal. When you are playing a battle with a limited mana cap, being able to fit a card like this into your lineup without spending too much mana can be extremely useful. The Reach ability is probably the first thing that makes this monster stand out. Because it can attack from the second position, you do not have to place Grim Bonewhip directly in the frontline. Instead, you can put a defensive monster in the first position and place Grim Bonewhip behind it. Then we have Rust, which I think is another very useful ability, as it reduces the Armor of every enemy monster by 2. This can be particularly helpful against lineups that rely heavily on Armor for their defence. Swiftness is also a nice addition because it gives +1 Speed to all allied monsters. Having higher Speed can help your team attack earlier and potentially evade some physical attacks. However, this ability should be considered carefully when playing under the Reverse Speed ruleset. Finally, Execute gives Grim Bonewhip another useful offensive tool at maximum level. When its attack reduces an enemy monster to 2 or less Health, it gets another attack against that same target. This can help clean up damaged enemies and prevent them from surviving with just a tiny amount of Health. It can be particularly satisfying when the first attack leaves an enemy barely alive and Execute immediately finishes the job.
Overall, I think Grim Bonewhip is a very useful low-mana Melee monster that offers a good combination of offence and team utility. At first look, it may look like a simple 5-mana monster at first, but once you consider all four abilities together, it becomes much more versatile. If you have a defensive frontline monster that can protect it, Grim Bonewhip can sit behind that tank and keep swinging away while also helping the rest of your team through its support abilities.
