In this report I go over an essay written by Howard Buffet in 1948 entitled "Human Freedom Rests on Gold Redeemable Money". Howard Buffet was a congressman from Nebraska and was also the father of Warren Buffett the billionaire investor. Warren Buffet ironically is not a proponent of the gold standard and sound money.
Congressman Buffett notes that the first thing dictators like Hitler, Mussolini and Lenin did when they came to power was to outlaw individual ownership of gold. He also notes that the right of the individual to redeem paper money for gold and silver keeps the political class and government in check.
He also notes that fiat money, the antithesis of sound money, leads to endless wars, debt and slavery. The conclusion is that the taxpayer under an irredeemable paper money system ends up footing the bills through endless taxation and an ever increasing debasement of the currency.
