In this weekend report, from London on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 I look at the U.S. economy, the gold market, the stock market and some of the current headlines in the world of finance and geopolitics.
I go through some of the recent economic statistics out of the U.S. and show that many of them have come out lower than expected and that the consumer seems to be succumbing to fatigue late in this economic cycle. The Conference Board Consumer Confidence indicator came a lot lower than expected and as consumer spending makes up 70% of GDP we should keep a close eye on the consumer going forward.
Today I also look at the Dow/Gold ratio and what it is pointing towards. My conclusion is that despite the stock market is near or at all-time highs, it looks like gold could outperform paper assets going forward.
My conclusion for the day is that there are many signs out there like the yield curve, collapsing bond yields and weakening economics statistics that are starting to point to a probable economic recession in the horizon.
