In this report, from London on Saturday, July 20th, 2019 I look into the current geopolitical developments in the Middle East with a focus on the Persian Gulf and the ongoing sour relations between the United States and Iran.
I will look back at history and a couple of crises that were very significant. The first one is the 1970s Oil crisis and the other one is the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1980.
My view is that these past crises were basically engineered or non-crises as Lindsey Williams explained so well in his book entitled "The Energy Non-Crisis". I will also reference an LA Times Op-Ed from a couple of years ago about the Iranian Hostage Crisis or the October Surprise.
My conclusion is that engineered crises are used as a psychological tool in order to make the general public accept policies that would normally never be accepted in normal times. This current Iranian Crisis has all the hallmarks of a non-crisis.
