In this report, From London on Friday, August 16th, 2019 I look into a story circulating in the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times about President Trump having an interest in purchasing Greenland from Denmark.
I will go over the FT article covering this story and I will also compare a potential Greenland Purchase for the United States with the Louisiana Purchase from France in 1803 by the United States.
My conclusion is that countries selling their territories might be beneficial for that country in the short term but in the long term it is not a good idea as land is a limited resource on the planet and Greenland is becoming more and more strategically important as the Arctic Ocean becomes more accessible to navigation and trade.
Last but not least my advice to Denmark if they do decide to sell Greenland is to demand payment in physical gold delivered to the Danish government's vaults in Copenhagen.
