Are the consequences in line with the actions?

Not always, but it is interesting how "cancel culture" as a phrase tends to be used a lot even where someone has been overtly racist, sexually abused someone, etc.

Why is that?

Eg. Brock Turner:

Them: "He was just a young boy with such a promising Ivy League / Sports future ahead of him, he made one mistake ..."

Us: "He raped a girl, bragged about it, and finally the police did something about it after public pressure"

Them: "CANCEL CULTURE"

Versus Tamir Rice - kid is playing with an obviously toy gun in his own front yard, gets murdered by police, and gets called a thug by Fox etc.

Which would you say is the most proportionate expression of this?
