I don't usually post "diary" kind of entries here but I figure it should not offend too many people if I do it occasionally.

We are getting toward the end of our de-clutter in Canada before our big move back to England and wiping this computer feels a little bit like a metaphor.

Since my dad passed away at the end of march it has been a whirlwind and now we are a couple of weeks away from leaving things are not slowing down.

The iMac shown in the image is going to a neighbor who has been extremely helpful with his truck helping us take things to the landfill. I am giving it a digital scrub down before handing it over as a web browsing machine for him and his family.

At the same time, so much of our stuff has gone to charity, to recycling, or on Facebook marketplace (which has been an adventure in frustration all in itself), it seems like our 12 years in Canada is being wiped away.

Still, the lady from the shipping company came and redid her cost estimate and we are apparently going to need a 40' shipping container for all our stuff. That is if they can even find a shipping container because they are not easy to acquire right now due to the mess the world is in.

We could buy a small car with what it is going to cost. Part of me wonders if we would be better off not being so attached to so many things.

It could be 3 months before our stuff even sets off on its voyage, and that much again before it arrives in England. In-between we will live out of suitcases and have to buy a whole bunch of stuff for day-to-day living, or see how long we can go without.

I understand now why people are so drawn to minimalism, but minimalist or not, I need a nice comfy bed and somewhere to sit, even if with a laptop I can in theory work anywhere there is an internet connection.
