Relying on individual performance is bad for a big club like Manchester United. I also noticed that the men they placed upfront were completely inactive without the ball. I expected them to track back and drop back to the midfield whenever they loose the ball so that they can help to get back the ball from Liverpool, but they never did that.

That's why Liverpool dominated the midfield from start to finish.
