sometimes the weight of reality
crushes my chest
squeezes the breath right out of me
i stop breathing
and i wake into a dream
reality apnoea.

it's so real
stranger than fiction
more real than real
i can't tell the difference
more surreal than life itself
and i can breathe again
sleep apnoea.

i fall asleep
and reality takes over once again
i can't remember
the gravity slowly increases
it's getting harder to take a breath
you're kneeling on my chest again
reality apnoea.

and i wake up,

into a trance
all we do is dance
i hold your hand
and you hold it back
we watch the black ocean together

and i wake up.

reality apnoea.

I wrote this poem at least 8 years ago by now, around the end of high school, I think. It's been so long, with computer changes and file corruptions, who knows what the actual date was.

For some reason I was obsessed with not using Capital Letters. A symptom of a lack of confidence perhaps?

Whatever the reason, I've decided to leave the poem as is, a testament to a younger me; something I will do for any other bits and pieces I decide to post from my collection.

I don't know why I stopped writing poetry, I really enjoyed it. Maybe I'll start again...
