Hello everyone in this wonderful community, I hope you're all well and that your week is going as wonderfully as mine. Today I'm so happy to be participating in this weekly #tbt initiative and to be able to share a photo and a story with everyone.
Today is Labor Day, and that's why this photo came to mind. I had to look it up on my computer because it's quite old. According to the date on the photo, it was taken on October 17, 2012, more than 12 years ago. This photo is special because it's almost the only memory I have of my first job, my first desk, my first office, when it existed at Hotel Lagunamar here in Margarita, and I was a Payroll Analyst.
I fondly remember this job and this time in my life. Back then, I hadn't even received my degree yet, but I was waiting for my graduation ceremony. They hired me anyway. I was 22 years old and had my first job. I was very, very happy. Aniuska Parella was my boss and mentor. She taught me, helped me, and allowed me to work alongside her because she insisted I stay in her position鈥攐ld-people stuff. The truth is, I learned a lot at this job, not only about payroll, but also about how a hotel works and all that world around it, which I find incredible. Those years were the foundation for later landing a position at the SunSol chain, and the rest is history.
Our days at the office were fun. Despite our rather delicate work and a payroll of around a thousand employees, there was always time for gossip, jokes, pranks, stories, after-work inventions, and laughter. My boss took this photo of me one afternoon, and she blackmailed me by saying she was going to show it to the HR Manager so I could be reprimanded for sitting awkwardly. It was a joke, but it was enough to make us laugh, and things like that were normal in our environment.
I chose this photo because it takes me back in time, to when I was more naive, more inexperienced, more vulnerable, and perhaps that's why it was the job I enjoyed the most, both for what I did and for the atmosphere between us.
In commemoration of Labor Day, I'm sharing my #tbt and the story of my first job. Happy Labor Day to everyone, blessings.
