Christmas Eve was pretty hectic as usual, haha. Some last-minute shopping, lots of people in the streets, and the intense heat of the sun, because on this side of the world, Latin America, there's no snow and much less cold. In fact, in Venezuela (my country) we have summer all year round, except for the Andes region. But anyway, it was a fun day. We arrived at my grandfather's house for our Christmas dinner, because even though my grandparents are sadly no longer alive, the whole family still gathers there for dinner and the celebration.
El d铆a de la v铆spera de navidad fue bastante ajetreado como siempre jaja, algunas compras de 煤ltima hora, much铆sima gente en la calle y adem谩s el intenso calor del sol, porque de este lado del mundo, Latinoam茅rica, no hay nieve y mucho menos fr铆o, de hecho en Venezuela (mi pa铆s) tenemos verano durante todo el a帽o, a excepci贸n de la zona de los Andes, pero en fin, fue un d铆a divertido, llegamos a casa del abuelo para tomar nuestra cena navide帽a, porque a pesar de que mis abuelos lamentablemente ya no viven, de igual forma toda la familia se re煤ne all铆 para la cena y la celebraci贸n.
Dinner was delicious, as always our traditional dinner consisting of Hallacas (a typical Venezuelan Christmas dish), ham bread, chicken salad, and for dessert a delicious papaya sweet. We also had tangerines, but the best ingredient is the family company, the jokes, the anecdotes we tell, the video calls for relatives who are abroad, the sharing of laughter and blessings. That, in my humble opinion, is the ingredient that gives our Christmas its special flavor.
La cena estuvo deliciosa, como siempre nuestra cena tradicional que consiste en Hallacas (plato t铆pico venezolano navide帽o) pan de jam贸n, ensalada de pollo y de postre un riqu铆simo dulce de lechosa (Papaya), aunque tambi茅n ten铆amos una mandarinas, pero el mejor ingrediente es la compa帽铆a familiar, los chistes, las an茅cdotas que se cuentan, las videollamadas para los familiares que est谩n en el extranjero, el compartir de risas y bendiciones, ese es, en mi humilde opini贸n, el ingrediente que le da la saz贸n especial a nuestra navidad.
Seeing those family members you haven't seen in a while is also rewarding, catching up on the news, enjoying their company, and one of the things I enjoy most are my aunt's anecdotes from when she was a child; she has many stories about her mischief at school, and she laughs when I tell her that she doesn't seem like she was so mischievous as a child 馃槃.
Volver a ver a esos familiares a los que ten铆as tiempo sin ver tambi茅n es gratificante, ponerte al d铆a con las novedades, disfrutar de su compa帽铆a, y una de las cosas que m谩s disfruto escuchar son las an茅cdotas de mi t铆a cuando era ni帽a, es que tiene muchas an茅cdotas de sus travesuras en el colegio, y ella se r铆e cuando yo le digo que no parece que de ni帽a haya sido tan traviesa 馃槃.
Afterwards, we went to my aunt's house (my mom's oldest sister) where they offered us dinner again, but I was already stuffed, I couldn't eat any more food, so I didn't eat again 馃槃 But the most fun part of the night was when we started playing Stop. For those who don't know, this game consists of someone calling out a letter (my mom's older sister did this) and then everyone has to write words that start with that letter, words that include (name, last name, country, color, thing, and animals) all in a very short time, and when someone completes the words they have to say "Stop" out loud. Each correct word is worth 100 points, but if they are repeated, that is, if more than one person used the same word, then it's worth 50 points, and in the end, whoever has the most points wins.
Despu茅s nos fuimos a casa de mi t铆a (la mayor de las hermanas de mi mam谩) donde nos ofrecieron cenar otra vez, pero yo ya estaba a reventar, no me cab铆a m谩s comida, as铆 que no volv铆 a cenar 馃槃 pero lo m谩s divertido de la noche fue cuando nos pusimos a jugar Stop. Para los que no lo sepan, este juego consiste en que alguien nombra una letra (esto lo hac铆a la hermana mayor de mi mam谩) y luego ya todos tienen que escribir palabras con esa letra, palabras que incluyan (Nombre, apellido, pais, color, cosa y animales) todo en muy poco tiempo y cuando alguien completa las palabras tiene que decir "Stop" en voz alta. Cada palabra acertada vale 100 puntos, pero si se repiten, es decir, si m谩s de una persona us贸 la misma palabra entonces vale 50 puntos, al final gana qui茅n m谩s puntos tenga.
But without a doubt, the funniest moments of the game were when someone made up names for things, countries, and animals that didn't exist, and then they'd use GPT chat to check if it was true or not. It cracked us up! 馃槃 Once, we were playing with the letter J and my cousin yelled "Stop!" too soon. When we asked him what color he'd written with the letter J, he said "Jamarillo" (yellow). 馃槀
Pero sin duda alguna los momentos m谩s divertidos del juego fueron cuando alguien inventaba nombres de cosas, paises y animales que no exist铆an, y luego recurr铆an a chat GPT para comprobar que eso no era cierto o que s铆 lo era, esto nos daba mucha risa. jaja 馃槃 En una ocasi贸n que est谩bamos jugando con la letra J y mi primo grit贸 Stop muy pronto, cuando preguntamos qu茅 color hab铆a escrito con la letra J, dijo "Jamarillo" 馃槀
One of my uncles then dressed up as Santa Claus to hand out some gifts to the children in the family. It was a very sweet and heartwarming moment that we all enjoyed immensely. We truly had a wonderful time, sharing a happy moment and creating memories for the future. Because even though some family members we loved very much are no longer in this world, and others are abroad, those of us who are still here don't miss the opportunity to give each other a big hug, wish each other a Merry Christmas, and many blessings.
Uno de mis t铆os despu茅s se visti贸 como Santa Claus para repartir algunos regalos a los ni帽os de la familia, fue un grato momento muy tierno que todos disfrutamos much铆simo, de verdad la pasamos muy bien, compartiendo un rato feliz, construyendo recuerdos para el futuro, porque a pesar de que algunos familiares que am谩bamos much铆simo ya no est谩n en este mundo, y que otros est谩n fuera del pa铆s, los que a煤n estamos aqu铆 no perdemos la oportunidad de brindarnos un gran abrazo, desearnos feliz Navidad y muchas bendiciones.
