Today, I’d like you to join me in exploring the current state of one of my favorite home goods stores. I live in Valencia, Venezuela, so yesterday—while running errands downtown—I took the opportunity to drop by and have a look. For some strange reason, items for the Christmas season start appearing around this time of year, or even earlier.
Hoy quiero que me acompañen a explorar como está ahorita una de mis tiendas favoritas en materia de artículos para el hogar, yo vivo en la ciudad de Valencia/Venezuela, así que ayer que me encontraba haciendo algunas diligencias y trámites en el centro aproveché para ir a echar un vistazo a la tienda, ya que por alguna extraña razón, ya para estas fechas, incluso antes, comienzan a aparecer los artículos para la temporada navideña.
The store I’m talking about is called Mango Bajito; the name comes from a Venezuelan expression used to mean that something is very easy to get or achieve—so, in this case, it refers to the price. It’s a massive chain with locations all over the country, long known for carrying all kinds of goods (especially for the home) and for its affordable prices. Ironically, though, I was looking for a small, everyday item—a potato peeler—and couldn't find one... well, at least not the way I wanted; I did find one, but only as part of a set that included knives and other things I don't need right now.
La tienda de la que les hablo se llama Mango Bajito, el nombre proviene de la misma expresión venezolana que usamos para denotar que algo es muy fácil de obtener o de lograr, así que en este sentido se refiere al precio. Es una cadena de tiendas muy grande que está en todo el país, y desde siempre se ha caracterizado por tener artículos de todo tipo (en especial para el hogar) y también por sus precios accesibles. Sin embargo irónicamente yo estaba buscando un artículo pequeño y bastante cotidiano como un pela papas y no lo conseguí jaja, bueno, o al menos no como yo esperaba, lo conseguí pero en un paquete junto con cuchillos y otros artículos que no necesito en este momento.
Anyway, here are some photos of products that caught my eye—like the cutlery sets; take a look at the prices: they range from $28 to $35, depending on the number of pieces included.
Sin embargo por aquí les dejo las fotos de algunos productos que me llamaron la atención, como los sets de cubiertos, miren los precios, desde 28 dólares hasta 35,, ependiendo de la cantidad de piezas que trae.
And regarding what I mentioned about Christmas items—there was a huge variety of things, especially the colorful tree ornaments we call *bambalinas* here in Venezuela. They also had Christmas trees available in all sorts of sizes, shapes, and price points, including the flocked ones that look so beautiful.
Y miren lo que les dije sobre artículos de navidad, había muchísimas cosas, en especial esferas de colores de las que se cuelgan en los árboles y que aquí en Venezuela llamamos “bambalinas” también tenían disponibles los pinos navideños en todos los tamaños, formas y precios, incluso los árboles nevados que se ven preciosos
Another thing that caught my eye was the dinnerware; there were various price points, but I really liked this porcelain set for $20. Oh, and there was also a wide variety of thermoses and thermal carafes, which are quite practical and useful.
Otra cosa que también llamó mi atención fue la vajilla, había de varios precios pero me gustó mucho este set de porcelana en 20 dólares, Ah y también había gran variedad de termos o jarras térmicas que son bastante prácticas y útiles.
And finally, I couldn't resist buying one of these little decorative lanterns; they look super cute, and I'd like to put it on a shelf in my room—plus, they actually light up.
Y por último no me pude resistir a comprar uno de estos farolitos decorativos, se ven super tiernos y me gustaría ponerlo en un estante de mi cuarto, además realmente se pueden iluminar.
