I just discovered that my cat – whom I had thought loved only me – has a girlfriend! The little bastard! 😹 When did this happen?
I found out about his infidelity last night. I had opened the front door to go out to the mailbox, and when I did… whomp! Out he went. He trotted down the front steps, crossed the lawn to the street out front, and dashed across to the sidewalk on the other side.
At the same time, as I was descending the walkway to get to the mailbox, I noticed another kitty cat, about the same colour- although a lot fluffier- scurry out from under the porch above the garage over to where he was sitting. They met, touched noses, and sat down facing each other.
I knew the other cat was female just by the way they were interacting with each other. There was none of the hissing, growling, or tail play that usually follows when two males encounter each other. None of the grandstanding.
As I was putting the piece of mail that I was sending into the box, I looked over to where they were. It was so cute! They had both turned to look at me and the glow from the reflection of the streetlight down the way made both of their sets of eyes light up a brilliant orangish-yellow. Against their goldfish-orange fur, the misty glow just made them appear almost magical.
I will never forget that beautiful moment. I wished that I would have had a camera right then.

I finished putting the letter into the mailbox and put up the flag. Just as I turned to walk back up the walkway to the house, I looked back to where the two felines had been sitting.
The sight that greeted me made my heart melt –
they had started walking away, one next to the other. It seemed almost like a scene from a movie (it would probably have been a Disney production).
