Regarding the variant with a forced draw: I am not obliged to take the bishop on h8. Instead, I could go 19...Nf5. The bishop should leave - 20.Be5, and I move into the endgame by 20...Qg5. Maybe this position is not better for me, but the pawns are equal and the game continues.
