Hello my fellow Hivers,
Greetings from Sri Lanka. What's up guys? I hope everything are fine with you. After a long time I am back on the platform with this new content. Due to the high workload, there was a big obstacle to creating content, so I was not able to enter this platform. But I took the opportunity to be active whenever I could. About two weeks ago, Poson Poya Day, which was a very important Poya Day for Sri Lankan Buddhists, came. That day is special because it is the day when Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka. Many years ago, King Devanampiyatissa was introduced to Buddhism by Mihindu Rahats on the rocks of Anuradhapura Mihinthalaya. Therefore, Buddhists were ready to perform many Buddhist religious activities on Poson Poya Day. A special poson zone was established in Habaraduwa, which is a little far from where we live, about two weeks ago.
Habaraduwa had displayed various Buddhist elements in the special poson region. Among them, in this content, I hope to present more information about the decorative Vesak lanterns.
One of the most unique aspects of Poson decorations in Sri Lanka is the colorful light bulbs that can be seen at night. A lot of light bulb vines could be seen on both sides of the road in Habaraduwa city. The light of those electric bulbs brought brightness to the whole city of Habaraduwa.
There are people living in Sri Lanka who have a unique ability to create Vesak lanterns of various shapes. Some Vesak lanterns take a long time to create. But the fact that these designers are trying to make that sacrifice is especially commendable. A variety of Buddhist carvings are used to decorate these Vesak lanterns.
Lotus flower, swan sign, elephant shape, marigold pots, Buddhist chakra, etc. are used for the above Vesak basket, which was made with a lot of time and difficulty. The efforts made by the creators to turn it into a rotating Vesak lantern using electricity is very unique. Several small Vesak lanterns have been created around the big Vesak lantern and given a special meaning to it.
*A special type of thin paper called Vesak paper is used to create these Vesak lanterns. These Vesak lanterns can also be made using oil leaves, coconut branches, coconut husks etc. For that, it is enough to come up with a creative idea.
Light bulbs of different colors are used to increase the light in Vesak cages. The brightness provided by those electric bulbs is unique.
It was seen that the shape of the image of Buddha was used in the creation of Vesak lanterns. It was also seen that the Dagoba shape was used. In these Vesak lanterns, we can see that curls have been used towards the bottom. Giving a unique shape through these also brings value.
Designers have presented these Vesak lanterns in various parts of the southern province. Different shapes are used in creating Vesak lanterns. Among them, a Vesak lantern in the shape of a star caught my attention.
In fact, there are many types of Vesak lanterns in Habaraduwa Poson region, but some of the lantern shapes were seen for the first time in my life. Therefore, this trip helped me to have a unique experience.
Meanwhile, lanterns were created in the shape of a lotus flower which is another unique Vesak lantern. This lotus shaped vesak lantern reflects unique light through the use of vesak papers in single color of pink and orange.
A Vesak lantern created using coconut husks was seen in one region after making a big dedication. It's going to be really special. Arranged in the form of a rotating Vesak lantern, it had the logo of the Buddha image, the Buddhist logo and the lotus flower logo.
Through the trip made in Habaraduwa Poson region, I got to see a Vesak lantern created with a special sacrifice. Its beauty increases through the carvings used to make the design. Also, its beauty is increased through the semi-dark bulbs used.
This Vesak lantern aims to encourage creativity by offering prize money to designers. Then the designers are also tempted to try different designs. The recently completed Habaraduwa Poson Zone was indeed a unique place to see Buddhist elements.
A large number of people irrespective of caste and religion were seen in this Habarawa Poson region. The reason for that was because such a region would not be seen again for some time. I have seen Vesak lanterns of various shapes being photographed in many mobile phone camera lenses. Often, those photos can be used to create such creative Vesak lanterns in the future.
Among the Sri Lankan Buddhist elements, the Vesak Pantheon was also seen in this region. A story from Buddha's biography is used for this Vesak pandal. When we went there, the light was not given.
Vesak lanterns and light bulbs were seen hanging on both sides of the Galle-Matara main road. There was a huge traffic jam due to the large crowd standing on both sides of the road.
We would have seen Vesak lanterns, signifying the birth of our religious leader Buddha. For that, several Vesak lanterns in the shape of lotus flower were placed in the ground. In this way, the information of a trip to enjoy another unique experience ends. Temporarily goodbye until I meet with another important content like this.
