Being a parent of three children has allowed me to understand that no matter how much distraction they may have, there will come a time when what they are doing is not enough, it seems to be a matter of disinterest in the everyday of things.
My son Jesus, only 2 years old, is a TV fanatic, but it is interesting to see how he is able to pay attention to only one episode of his favorite cartoon, from there, he runs out to the living room, plays with his car and soon returns to continue watching TV and he does it repeatedly, which makes me wonder is it that he gets bored too quickly?
I think the answer is very obvious, and I can assume that, for Jesus, doing the same thing for a long time causes boredom, so I can define boredom as that friend that arrives unannounced and obviously, because it is an inopportune moment, is not welcome.
However, beyond Jesus' routine, I have noticed that in those moments when boredom overwhelms him, is where his creativity to do new things comes to the fore, at that point our house is filled with a disturbing silence, which is usually dangerous because we must be attentive to Jesus because his occurrences exceed our imagination, it seems that a secret super power activates his creativity.
So, if you are a parent, you may have noticed that in those moments of boredom, children begin to invent crazy things, for example, the walls of my house turn out to be the favorite place for Jesus to put into practice his painting skills or, failing that, for my laptop to be the equivalent of a trampoline where he can jump and distract himself, it seems that in those moments the brain begins to play on its own, and awakens incredible ideas in the minds of children.
However, beyond how outrageous it may sound, it is necessary to take into account that boredom allows children to think for themselves, since the acts they perform are the product of their inventiveness and, undoubtedly, these actions are the perfect breeding ground to come up with super creative ideas, that is, if we apply scientific terms.
However, it is also necessary to clarify that, like everything in life, there is a not so great side of boredom, since being so long without doing anything, can have negative effects on the minds of children, let's exemplify it as a plant that does not receive water, obviously with the passage of time will wither, generating a disconnection and discouragement in the child and this is not so appropriate for creativity.
Now then What's the key, all part of the principle of balance, it is interesting to be able to assume this process as a heterogeneous mixture that we execute when cooking, that is to say, a little boredom, seasoned with daily activities, generates the perfect recipe that allows children to dream while awake and at the same time to develop activities, games and things that they love.
So dear reader, personally we have to awaken creativity in our children in those moments when boredom overwhelms them, but keeping in mind that boredom, although it may seem annoying, is a necessary tool to awaken the occurrences of the little ones of the house.
Since a bored mind, it turns out to be an alarm at a psychological level that allows to awaken areas associated with imagination and decision making, hence the act of being bored turns out to be a training to be more resourceful and adaptive in this changing society.
