Starting today, Huawei mobile phone users can download Bitcoin wallets directly on their devices.
As the world’s third-largest handset maker, Huawei’s app store, App Gallery, has already added BTC.com’s Bitcoin wallet. The news was announced by Alejandro de la Torre, BTC.com’s vice president of business. BTC.com Wallet will be the first encrypted currency app on the Huawei App Store. AppGallery will be installed by default in all new devices of Huawei and its glory series, and will fully settle in the remaining old equipment in the coming months.
This move will have a major impact on the Chinese market. China has always been a hotbed of cryptocurrency. Until then, neither Google Play for Android devices nor Apple's App Store (in some regions) can download cryptocurrency applications directly. Earlier the government had stopped the cryptocurrency trading platform and ICO activities, but people can still hold virtual currencies.
De la Torre pointed out:
This is the best opportunity to break into the Chinese market. App-driven cashless payment is a missing aspect of traditional banking systems and is therefore an excellent use case for cryptocurrency payments.
BTC.com also operates one of the world's largest bitcoin mining pools, while the owner behind it is mining hardware maker Bitmain. In addition, Huawei is also considering developing a blockchain mobile phone.
Jaime Gonzalo, Vice President of Huawei Mobile Services, said:
We have a leading position in the Chinese market and we have cutting-edge mobile payment technology. We expect to see the popularity of cryptocurrencies in the world in the near future.
Update: Huawei stated that the application for the Bitcoin Wallet was officially approved in AppGallery after it was approved by App Gallery. It has not yet been included in mainland China.
