Hi all,
Just wanted to share my thoughts on this issue and maybe you agree or not, either way you are free to comment below and upvote if you enjoyed this. I am a big sports fan and i watch WTA tennis occasionally.
So let's dive in. We have seen in the last couple of years a strange thing in the WTA tennis rankings, where the nr 1 is not really there deservedly, if you ask me. I'm not sure why, but players today don't have what it takes to become a real champion and be admired by everyone for their excellence and hard work. The last nr 1 in the WTA who deserved it was Serena and she held it for years. She first became nr 1 in 2002 and she was only 21. she lost that spot to Sharapova in 2005. Sharapova, but now is a controversial figure and i can see why some stopped liking her but to be honest she had it all, focus, discipline, hard work, skills and LOOKS. WOW.
Anyway since Sharapova got marked as a cheater she maybe lost some of her enthusiasm, but i guess she will be back in the top, just like Venus. Venus is just killing it, she reinvented herself and is making deep runs in most tournaments. Tomorrow she is playing in the WTA finals in a competition played between the top 8 players. She is up against Wozniacki, also a former nr 1 but she never had the champion spirit. Venus will win that no problems. That will be my bet for tomorrow.
Last 2 years we had two nr 1's that would never have that spot if it wasn't for Sharapova's ban and Serena's maternity leave. Let's face it, Kerber got very lucky that she beat Serena in the finals and as soon as she got nr 1 i could see her not being able to keep i. Her style of play and composure and determination is just the same as current nr 1 Halep. Halep got nr 1 beacuse no one else would take it, if you don't mind me saying. She was always jumping between 4-5th and 2nd. She is not a champion. You need to be a leader to lead the pack and a champion to keep it. Players focus to much on the media and trying to please everyone and they play in fear of what people say about them and can't block these distractions out.
I hope that women tennis will bring more entertainment in the near future, maybe Ostapenko, she looks promising and hope Serena will be back and hungry for the lead again.
That is my take on it.
