I feel like Americans are locked into short term thinking about issues like food security. Companies only care about the next quarter while politicians can't see past the next election cycle. Banning GMOs and crop chemicals could indeed make for a tight couple of years in terms of food supply, but the long term benefit would be healthier land and healthier food.
