Data comprising everyone's digital shadows was already collected by companies and government agencies. The part that's new in this program is the ability to query all of this data, which is spread across various repositories. The underling motivations for using systems like this is always to protect the good people and punish the bad people. Unfortunately, in practice, this motivation typically decomposes into increasing the degree to which the control regime can control the population.

In general, I think that the future is radically transparent and that this is overall a good thing. All of our tech is designed for this transparency and claims of supporting privacy are typically lies. The big questions in my mind about this future are a.) how accessible to us is the information that's been collected about us? and b.) to what degree will we be aware of it when someone else accesses/uses information about us?
