It is tragic. Part of a much larger tragedy.

There's the system itself, the industry around it, and the laws keeping the machine fed. All these things are somewhat shielded from public scrutiny by media disinterest. State by state, there may be opportunities to reform. But I feel like this reform is of low priority to most people at this time. That's something that could theoretically be changed.
