Suicide...

When does it start
the thought
of taking your own life
holding that gun
or picking up that knife

how long
does it live inside
mingling with the demons
you have until now
tried to hide

what kind of defenses
do we have
to battle this fight
fend off all the darkness
walk in the light

physical ailments
I guess
play their role
while mental impairments
can slowly take control

what makes us
so alone
surrounded by this world
lurk in the shadows
hurt to the bone

does it feel
like the right thing
to do
or something unthinkable
we've conceded too

the tears that now
run cold
no longer pull us back
something has changed
as it all fades to black

do we hope that
we fail
pray we are saved
wake once again
whole and unscathed

do we ask
for forgiveness when
we reach the other side
claim --
that we tried

what makes the decision
to live or die
whatever it is
it's still
…suicide!
