Regardless of your political or economical need of belonging - right/left, private/public, it might worth noticing that neither is actually a pair of opposites. Even the private/public difference in case of property, factory, bigger things, it seems to be irrelevant whether a factory is owned by one person or State - either way we have no say in what it does or how it is run.
On the picture above there is a two-man saw. It has left side and it has right side. It also has interesting ability to cut down the mightiest of trees by engaging relatively small force to push left, right, left, right... Left and right in politics can be seen as a false dichotomy. There's little more to it. Differences are superficial (although very loudly advertised to make people care and identify with one side and treat the other side as Them, Our Enemies). Both wings seek to dominate. Both see themselves as forces of Good and want to "win", and society gives more power to one, then to the other, the saw is in constant motion, and the tree that is being cut down is our freedom.
All players want more dominance. Well, maybe not all, but the most important ones. The ones who can win.
The only real polarization is between less and more control of the people by the ruling class. It is irrelevant whether current face of the state is more left or right, or economic system is more social or capital in nature. No war but the class war, some people say, making it strictly about capitalism. But it is not quite about just money - yes, money is power, and "class" we oppose can be thought of as "the wealthy who rule" but although money is power, power is not necessarily money. The "class" we oppose is the people who want to rule over us. Money is just a tool for control.

The second most important tool for control is divide and conquer. People united pose quite a danger to the ruling class. People divided along artificial lines, discussing irrelevant topics, arguing about problems that are less important, substitute problems that burn our energy without making the world a better place.
We are all humans. We are all citizens of Earth. It's that simple.
Behemoth of the System (State is also quite descriptive a word) is rolling through the world, and we're arguing about whether it should be painted red, blue or green. We should be discussing how to get rid of the Behemoth instead. Which is not the same as trying to install any particular political or economic system. But it seems it is difficult to get past that - people like to name things and compare them to what they know, and if the only thing they know are capitalism, communism and socialism, introducing modern ideas like The Venus Project is very difficult - immediately the reaction is "they are just socialists, and we know socialism doesn't work, period". And it is not as simple as that...
