What is Kafkaesque?

We might have heard the term Orwellian, Dickensian, Shakespearean, even Byronic hero,those are the term to describe literary works or a situation that bear similar characteristic written by aforementioned writers. Kafkaesque describes a nightmare in the modern society. The complexity of bureaucracy system, unpredictable abuse of totalitarian power and human insecurities.

Kafka's biography and works

Kafka was born in Prague in 1883. He hails from a Jewish family living in Czechoslovakia. His family educated him under the German cultural and literary tradition. However, he learned to write in Czech and Hebrew. He was living with an opinionated and authoritative father figure. Their relationship haunted most of Kafka's writing. A prominent examples can be seen through the judgment and even the metamorphosis. Not to mention, his characters often struggle with insecurities and trouble with an authority figure.

Short Review :

It tells about the story of Josef K, who is unexpectedly arrested for unidentified crime. A chapter of this story is left unfinished by Kafka. The plot is quite slow but full of suspense and sparks curiosity. I would recommend to read this story if you have spare time.
