Trying to distract my mind from the situation in the country, I am going back to focus on things that matter to me. Coffee is one of them!
Soy milk has recently become very popular in Indonesia. Many companies now created their soy milk version. To me, soy milk isn't something new. Growing up, my mom would always get me soy milk from the market. It was cheaper and something we could afford than regular milk. They have many flavors too and I never even thought that it would taste good with coffee.
I had my first coffee with soymilk around 2020, there was that option in starbucks and I decided to give it a try. Until then, occasionally I would still order coffee with soy milk especially when I am in Bali where these things thrive. Today, I made my own version of a soy milk latte. Honestly, this is just simple coffee just replacing the milk with soy milk. I also use my mini coffee machine from Miniso which is super reliable. I've been wanting to get an espresso machine but I need to be cured from my travel bugs.
Coffee with soymilk is also an option if you are lactose intolerant. My mom usually chooses soy milk over regular milk or at home, we have lactose free milk. The coffee that I use today is pike place medium roast from Starbucks. I like the taste because it's mild, balanced, with toasted nuts flavor that when paired with soy milk, it elevates the nutty flavor more.
Using a miniso machine, it creates about 15ml of coffee but I reckon, we can even make espresso with a few tricks. That coffee isn't usually enough for me, so I often make 2-3 cups before adding milk into the coffee. But today, I was lazy, so the coffee looks like milk with coffee instead of coffee with milk. Nowadays, there are also many soy milk products but my favorite is Vsoy because they have a smoother taste and are just overall delicious to drink.
Also, I recall at some point soy milk got a bad rep in internet culture. I don't know but I don't think there's anything wrong with consuming soy, at least in moderation. Maybe some of you are aware of the soyboy term but it's just in my opinion that the internet can be that toxic nitpicking and judging every little thing we love to do/drink/eat.
