We all know that some patience goes a long way but for impatient person, that is never the case. Impatient person, including myself sees time as precious commodity. We hate delays, inefficiencies and desires for short-term result. We can't really see beyond now and we expect to see immediate result of whatever we're working on. We wanted everyone to function as fast as we do. To understand things faster as we do, to solve problems as quickly as we do. The thing is, the world doesn't work that way. Sometimes it asks us to pause and a lot of time, waiting actually is part of the experience as a human being.
Welcome to my brain dump, it's morning and when I can sit down, sipping a cup of coffee while contemplating life and emptying it out a little.
It can be very costly. Being impatient can affect our decision making but also how others perceive us.However, the apparent cost of impatience that can be seen is definitely the impulse buying. I had this experience a lot throughout my life that because of my impatience, I'd ended up losing money in the process or rather than actually purchasing something I really wanted to buy, I ended up purchasing a lesser product of that version. But there's also intangible examples such as quitting before actually understanding or grasping the concept because we don't see the result that we wanted after the first try.
Today, I can look back to all those decision making and honestly, everything stems to my impatience. While I am very persistent and I see myself as someone who does whatever is necessary to reach my goal, patience wasn't in the picture. I've really only internalized it recently when I see how much my impatience has been costing me. My brain only make sense of numbers and tangible data and once I presented those and created the analytics, I realized how stupid I've been all along.
With how our current society works, this is the ideal world of impatient people. Everything we wanted,as long as we have the means can be achieved now, within seconds and we don't even have to wait too long. Do you want that piece of dress? do you want to switch places? Do you want to lose weight without actually doing all the hard work? All these are available without putting the work of years that sometimes might not even yield the result that we wanted. We don't really care about the journey anymore but what can be seen at front face. We don't really see how someone has saved up for that expensive trips, we only see that they're posting their life, enjoying it to the fullest. This is the world that is a double edged for someone who was conditioned to be impatient. I believe people don't naturally born impatient but throughout their development years, they were built and shaped that way. Navigating such world isn't easy.
The thing that was working for me was truly defining my own values and not afraid to live it. I don't have to get that new piece of dress or buy the latest gadget, the latest PC or constantly following the endless development that doesn't seem to have a pause. I've lived a couple decades acting out of my impulses and that led me to basically nowhere as those decision were mostly based on my impatience rather than thinking through it and act on it. I suppose, I get older too with some experiences that I finally understand the true and real cost of impatience.
It also relates to how prices these days are up. There will be still so many cycles around and my plan is just keeping my head down, build things, and instead of following the waves of the price, I'd really just stick to the original plans I've made.
That's all for today's brain dump.
