1. Nomadlist

Nomadlist is a website full of databases catered to digital nomad. Even if you are a casual traveler, you can use the website to research about the place's safety, walkability, wifi and even the cost of living. On a note, cost of living varies depending on the lifestyle. But through this website, I was able to map out the neighborhood that I wanted to pick and the kind of crowd that area around the area. I use this a lot to research places and often referenced it to a friend. I also ask around if the price on the website would be similar to the actual place and I always get nice estimates. However, traveling as an Indonesian vs as someone from places with stronger currency are different. I often find these prices catered more to those with stronger currencies. So, just be warned. Consider yourself lucky if you’re from a country with stronger currencies as the price you’d spend wouldn’t be that different. The website is also full of databases including women friendly, safety, and freedom of speech.

Pros : Complete database and informative

Cons: Apparently it looks like now we can search endless info there.Although I still find some info e.g about Yogyakarta is outdated.

2. Finding random flights

I have two recommendations: that's why I put it as finding random flights. If you are the type to travel based on your day off or work at an office setting, you can use google flights options. It’s as great as skyscanner to determine the good days of traveling and the cheapest flight. All you have to do is put your departure airport and flexible dates, and you’ll see a map of places with their estimated place. There will be recommendations of websites to book the flights from. Meanwhile skyscanner.com is great to find cheaper options and at this point, I would say I definitely prefer google flights than skyscanner.

Pros: Easy search

Cons : nothing so far but it’s google. If you are anti-google this isn’t for you.

3. Budgetyourtrip.com

Budgetyourtrip.com allows you to know the estimation of cost based on your traveling style. You can go from a budget traveler to high-end traveling and even estimates for solo and couple traveling. I use this website to estimate because their estimation is often 2-3x more than what I would spend. For example, in Bali they recommended spending 327000 IDR/day on a budget for traveling around the island. However, in reality excluding the transportation cost, at max I would spend 100000 IDR/day for a 3x meal at a nice place. If I go on a budget, I can go as low as 30000 IDR. In another country, it was the same thing but it’s nice to be prepared as sometimes, there’s unplanned events.

Pros : Helpful and very complete with recommendations too

Cons: Must have adblocker removed although you can access just fine. A bit cluttered website and not too UX friendly.

Extras

Another extra would be pinmaple. It’s great to read from other hivers before traveling to a place. Although some of them only contain pictures and basic information about a place, you can still find recommendations over there just definitely don’t expect to often find budget estimates or even how much things cost. Either way, it's still a great place to check out places to see when traveling to another city, island, or even countries.
