The Game:
Hunt: Showdown
The Hunted:
Into the bayou again with gunmetal in her hand and hunters at her heels. Finally, her chance to join the A.H.A. After trailing leads for months she had finally made contact with the organization in Louisiana. The contact was well timed and a local outbreak had made recruiting a new class a necessity.
She was dropped just outside Devant Ranch after being given an injection, a simple weapon, and clear instructions. Listen for whispers and and try and use something called Darksight. These gifts should help us find the clues we are looking for in this outbreak area. The first person to find enough clues will become what is call the Wellspring and, by sundown, only the wellspring would still be alive.
After searching the side barn at Devant for basic supplies I walked right into a trap. As the rounded a corner the barrel she had given a wide berth burst first started hissing and then busrt into flames. It's a terrible thing to find one's self on fine unexpectedly and, in most cases, it can do a great deal to break your concentration.
A silenced bullet shattering your collarbone brings things back into focus though. Somehow she was able to bring the shotgun up and let go with both barrels. By the time she had the fire on her arm out and the dead hunters medkit in their hands she was already feeling better.
It looked as if the hunter who had ambushed her had their head completely removed or had fallen under a haystack at the proper angle. She didn't stop to check which.
The next compound was the same thing. Approaching the second clue was nerve-racking but, with the level of pain she was in, it wasn't hard to push through. Crossing the long platform was the perfect place for the archer to strike and, before she could dodge, the arrow was her left arm.
"Jokes on you," she though, "That side of my body is already one steady throb.".
She could hardly feel the arrow so she kept moving. Some might call it moving in a serpentine pattern, others might call it stumbling around losing blood. The archer dropped out of the second story opening and hit the ground in a superhero pose. They just hit a little harder than they expected and stumbled a bit. This meant when they looked up they were staring down both barrels, just like the last asshole who ambushed me.
This one lost her head. No need to double check this time.
The clue was under the compound and, after removing the arrow from her useless arm she found herself crouching over the smouldering pile. There was something about this. She had already almost died twice but she felt more alive than ever, especially when her body was drinking in these clues.
There was a chopped Spectre shotgun next to the clue. A serious piece of machinery but , as her Momma has taught her so well, "dont tinker". She kept her chopped Caldwell Rival and kept moving. Her place in the American Hunters Association was waiting for her.
She left good now, the sun was on her face and she felt like she was really getting rolling now. To make things even better the clue in the next compound was on the closer side which was good because she was losing a lo of blood. There was something new though, a hunger. She was starting to need the clue which would normally worry her but surrounded by inhuman monsters, it seemed like a problem to deal with later.
The issue at hand was to get that clue. And she was close. Her mouth was already watering. She felt alive. Which was a good way to die. She never even felt the arrow as it passed through her eye. She never had a chance to see the other huntress before she shot through the hole where the board had been town away. All and all, it was a good death and,due to the Molotov cocktail the other huntress used to burn her body, it was final.
