Then I look at the generation of my parents and they did not believe in therapy? There is nothing wrong with them? From my experience I have not seen more messed up people in lot of aspects. They refuse to get help because of the stigma that surrounds the topic. Almost always having this defensive reaction. How dare you to suggest that I need therapy which in other words is to work on yourself. Sorting out past trauma that plays the hand in every day life. I see them replaying their issues over and over with never coming to any lessons learned. They don't even seem to see them and especially when pointed out to them. I do not see them working on any skills in that aspect. They just continue their bitter lives and grow a shell around them at best.
Heck, even I have that defensive reaction to it even as I know that I am struggling with similar things. And when I hear maybe I could use some assistance in that regard. I think to myself well...maybe these trained individuals know some methods and ways to help me cope with stuff. Maybe I should not try to act all though all the time and say it is okay to have some help. Life is hard as it is. And for many who struggle with depression it can seem a lot harder. And when I hear well you are taking just the easy route by going to the therapist to help, I do not think it is right. Way too many claim their lives since they in their state of mind felt they have anyone in this world to help them out of a dark place. And you can look at them and think - well they just did not work hard enough on themselves. But I do not think it is right.
That said, I am not saying that I actually know what is right. Just my own observations, experiences, how I feel about the topic. Maybe I am just feeling like I pay attention but I am not. Maybe I am one of those pussies that someone mentioned in the comments. And well.. I am fine with that. I am a pussy!
