Hive would be a lot more different if people weren't afraid to downvote content. That is one of the biggest issues of the platform. While people call them downvote wars and ugly look for the platform, it is the part that should help balance out the problem with distribution. But when you are a tiny fish in a pool of huge sea monsters, you don't make a squeak and just shrug and swim along with the stream. Meanwhile entitlement grows. People say maybe tiny fish also can bundle together and fight the fight, but reality is that there is no incentive in doing so. It's broken.

It is interesting how free speech is advertised about decentralized platforms yet thread carefully in these waters is how it actually is here. And those who try to swim against the stream, well you know what happens then.

Another thing, communities. While having tinier communities seems great and makes it easier for content discovery, it also creates issues. Such as, having concentration of distribution in certain types of content while outside them other types of content go unnoticed and without curation no matter how great the content is. Not much can be done about that though, but it also makes people cater for more powerful communities if their focus is earning HIVE.
