Fowl - Ink Drawing, 21x16 cm, 2022
Fowl? What is that? Sometimes I still run into words I do not know since I am not a native English speaker. After a quick search, I found that fowls are birds, slightly similar to chickens. They are so pretty! Especially the Guinea Fowls! Their feathers have these beautiful polka dot patterns. I was immediately mesmerized by them. And since I love using dots in my artwork, I could not pass this prompt!
Before sketching my bird, I spent some time studying the features of Guinea Fowls in the images I could find online. Their bodies remind me of a chunky upside-down water droplet supported by sturdy legs with sharp-looking pointy fingers. Their necks have a blue portion or variations of white and other tones. The female birds and male birds look different too. I chose to draw the female bird.
The most important feature I wanted to capture was the polka dot patterns of the feathers all over the fowl's body. I used the white Sakura Gelly Roll pen 08 to go over the dark gray base tone (I diluted the Diamine Jet Black slightly with water to achieve the gray) with tiny white dots. The effect worked out perfectly!
Anyhow, I hope I captured the spirit of the bird. I will name it Poky! And as I said before, Poky maybe will roam around my gardens someday. ^^

Regardless, it was fun! And I think having fun is often underrated. And while I did not get to work on my skills that much. I did not make breakthroughs or test my limits. I held my tools in my hands again and created something I was and am happy with. Months had gone by with me being busy with other things and mental struggles. I had no energy for art.
