Inktober 2022, Day 16: Fowl

Who knows, maybe I will have these birds at my homestead in the future. All I have learned about them makes me think they would fit my gardening plans. They are gentle around plants and produce while taking care of pests well. Unlike chickens! I still remember that my grandmother's chickens often caused devastation in the garden. xD

Before sketching my bird, I spent some time studying the features of Guinea Fowls in the images I could find online. Their bodies remind me of a chunky upside-down water droplet supported by sturdy legs with sharp-looking pointy fingers. Their necks have a blue portion or variations of white and other tones. The female birds and male birds look different too. I chose to draw the female bird.

The most important feature I wanted to capture was the polka dot patterns of the feathers all over the fowl's body. I used the white Sakura Gelly Roll pen 08 to go over the dark gray base tone (I diluted the Diamine Jet Black slightly with water to achieve the gray) with tiny white dots. The effect worked out perfectly!

Anyhow, I hope I captured the spirit of the bird. I will name it Poky! And as I said before, Poky maybe will roam around my gardens someday. ^^
