My girlfriend and I decided to invite one of my best friends Sten and his girlfriend Dessie to visit together the Christmas Market in Sofia. We had long planned to have a double date with them and now was the perfect time for that.
The Christmas market in Sofia is located in front of our National theater.
We met right in front of it.
In fact, I have to point out that this is a German Christmas market and its name is also in German -> "Deutscher Weihnachstmarkt".
For nine years in a row, this market has delighted young and old.
This year, however, is different.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, eating and drinking is prohibited on the market, which means that you are only allowed to buy and leave.
As you can see from the photo there was a very long queue of people waiting to visit the market.
As soon as I entered, my eyes were drawn to the various types of ham and sausages that were on offer.
Of course еveryone wore masks.
My friend Sten (who you may know as @halos) loves beer, so when he saw the beer kiosk, he was happy. I always say that this guy should participate in our #BeerSaturday challenge created by
@detlev because he have a lot to show.
Sten bought himself a bottle of Glarus. An english ale with a 4.6% alcohol. Not bad!
Like I said, you can't drink beer at the market because there are security guards all the time.
That doesn't mean you can't have fun and enjoy walking around it.
If you love chocolate, you will definitely like the pavilions, which offer a variety of sweet temptations.
One of my favorite things are the free ones. Who doesn't love gifts?
This girl gave me a breakfast cereal from Dr. Oetker. Nice!
In other years, there are children on this stage who sing Christmas carols. It's empty there now. This is sad!
Of course, Christmas decorations keep the mood.
Honestly, I really like these wooden pavilions.
Especially those that also offer delicious food.
This is one of my favorite pavilions in this market.
This cheese smells so good. Definitely if you haven't try it you should fix this.
The other thing I like is the German sausages. They are many different types and almost all of them are very tasty.
By the way, there were the most pavilions offering Christmas toys and decorations.
There were not as many queues in front of them as in front of those who offered churros, for example.
But can the Christmas market not have a Christmas tree?
Of course not.
It's weird that even the Christmas tree was surrounded by metal fences and people can't take pictures with it..
However, this did not stop us from taking pictures with it.
First @gigiii took a picture of Sten and Dessie, then it was our turn.
Unfortunately I have a problem with the platform and I can't upload the photo of the four of us.
We bought things to eat and drink. I think my friend Sten was most pleased with the purchases.
He looks pretty happy, doesn't he?
We left the market and found a bench where we could enjoy the food.
After we ate our food and talked, the weather got worse and we had to go home.
The truth is that no matter in how good place you are in, if you are in bad company, it doesn't matter. In this case, I am glad that the company was very nice.
I hope that next year there will be no such restrictions and the coronavirus pandemic will be over :)
