The following poem was created based on a prompt :"Afterthoughts".

I'd like to know your thoughts, your afterthoughts,
what lingered when the evening let us go.
I walked into your life, unguarded, unarmed,
and let a truth escape I hadn't meant to show.

Perhaps too soon, too bold, too much, too fast,
a truth that slipped its leash before I knew it;
I hadn't meant to bare my soul that afternoon,
but fifty seconds passed. There's no undo.

I never stopped to ask what life had placed around you,
if there was someone else whose heart was bound to yours;
I only knew the unexpected pull between us,
and spoke before I'd thought to ask what that truth might cost.

I tell myself it was just an afternoon,
a date, perhaps, a moment passing through,
yet something in my cells refuses reason,
this recent memory unfolds its warmth.

A tiny smile unfurls upon my face,
like spring beneath the stubborn weight of snow.
I wonder what you thought of me that evening,
what you felt, and what you didn't let me know.

Your eyes, caught shimmering in the sun;
your mouth, a thought I couldn't quite dismiss.
I wonder if you sensed the same small tremor,
and wondered what might happen with a kiss.

Who knew that somewhere past my middle years,
beneath the dust of all I've had to bear,
a single spark could slip between my fears
and wake the sleeping woman hidden there?

I thought the years had taught my heart its limits,
had shown my blood which rivers not to cross.
Then you appeared, and something stirred beneath them,
a current long mistaken for its loss.

Around you, something stirs, something takes flight;
the fog lifts, the old numbness loosens its hold.
I had grown accustomed to the dimness
and nearly mistaken it for growing old.

Perhaps a life can fit you like a glove
and still leave something aching underneath.
Perhaps the quiet we grow comfortable in
is only silence holding back its breath.

I've briefly met your mind, your art, your many layers.
I'd like to know what lies beyond them, too.
Now I'd like to meet the man beneath the language,
just you, just me, and what we choose to do.

I want to hear what you would say of this,
not just the polished thoughts, the amazing art,
but what you feel, what frightens you, what pulls
you closer to the edge of your own heart.

I have no promises to lay before you,
no future neatly folded in my hands.
Just stolen hours, perhaps, of something reckless,
and all the complications neither of us planned. Are you in?

I know the world won't rearrange around us.
There are lives, commitments, consequences, too.
The what-ifs gather like a flock of blackbirds,
and yet, every answer seems to feed the fire.

I don't want to hurt the ones who trust me,
nor leave a trail of broken hearts behind;
though somewhere in this careful life I've built,
I hear a question I can no longer leave behind:

What about me?

I've preached the gospel of the truthful soul,
of never letting fear dictate our part;
and now, here I stand, divided from my whole,
a stranger to the sermons of my heart.

Perhaps this is the equation without answers,
the sum of all the things we cannot mend:
desire, duty, timing, truth, and consequence,
and no neat little number at the end.

I have no formula, no great solution,
no magic key to make the pieces align;
but I am willing to face the convolution,
to risk a little chaos for a sign.

I won't dress it up as something noble,
or call it fate to make it easier to bear.
This is not an attempt to turn a complicated life
into a place of escape. I’m drawn to you.

For now, the walls won't move. The months remain.
Some things cannot be hurried into place.
I know what I can offer, what I cannot,
and I won't pretend that either is a grace.

But I would like to know what you are thinking,
what lives beneath the artist's measured art.
I'd like to meet you where the truth begins,
where a man speaks without armour, heart to heart.

I know the price of what I'm asking;
no one dreams of being someone's secret,
a shadow at the edge of someone else's life,
to live on borrowed moments, call the fragments a whole life.

Today, I'm standing at a threshold,
one life behind me, one that calls ahead;
a triangle of duties, wants, and locked doors,
where every path is tangled with unsaid.

For months, perhaps, the walls will not give way;
the pieces of this puzzle cannot shift.
I cannot promise you a clearer day,
only that I won't disguise the weight of it.

I cannot offer certainty or freedom,
nor ask you to pretend that this is fair.
I can only offer what is mine to offer:
my truth, my tenderness, my willingness to care.

So, I lay my truth, my doubt, confusion,
not asking you to rescue me or stay;
just asking if you'd meet me at this door
tell me what you feel, in your own way, no illusion.

I have no grand conclusion,
no perfect final stanza to undo the ache.
I've said what I can say without disguise;
the rest is yours to feel, or leave, or make.

I’d like to know what lives between your eyes and me.
So tell me, how about you?
What happened on that Sunday ?
Did something awaken there in you, too?

Lavi Picu is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture, ink drawing, installation, mixed media, and writing. Her work is situated within a contemporary inquiry into the body, identity, and the visible and invisible dimensions of human experience. Her approach is characterized by sustained attention to materiality, texture, and the relationships between form, gesture, space, and light. Through paintings, sculptures, drawings, and installation-based works, she develops a formal vocabulary in which organic forms, repetition, and surface alteration convey states of tension, transformation, and resilience.
