Throughout human history, we used all kinds of items a "money". Anything that is agreed upon by a group of people will serve the purpose. The reason for this is due to the fact that money is a social construct. If we agree to use it, then it is so.
I mostly agree with this post. However,
money is
A) a medium of exchange
B) a measure of value
C) a store of value.
Not anything can be money. Money must be durable, divisible, fungible and recognizable. Its quantity must be difficult to increase if demand for it increases. If that does not hold for a form of money, its usability as a store of value will collapse. The very reason for the existence of money is scarcity. Money is a representation of scarcity. In that sense, money (existence thereof) is a sign of poverty. You can replicate any number of tokens at will but for them to have value, there must be sinks for them, i.e. things of value they can be exchanged for.
When you talk about blockchains being non-scarce you have a point to a degree. The vast majority of information is not scarce. New information can be. People's time and capacity for attention is. Skills are scarce because the take time to develop. Hive is more valuable than Steem because all the talent left Steem and migrated to Hive and most of it is not participating on Steem any longer.
For now, most current blockchains have very high valuations relative to the value created on them mostly because at this stage of development most chains are used by speculators to try and gain more bitcoins. That can and will change as the use cases of many other chains grow stronger. As Hive users we must relentlessly break it down to the rest of the world how useful Hive can be at combating censorship.
