It is very easy to describe discrimination, but it is quite difficult to explain why it actually happens.
IT'S VERY SIMPLE. DISCRIMINATION IS HARD WIRED INTO OUR GENES.
It's an essential mechanism to not die. (do I discriminate between a bowl of muesli and a bowl of arsenic? Yes, because one will benefit me, and one will kill me)
Th object of the discrimination isn't the point, the acceptance of it being a large part of who we are, is.
Discrimination while being logical would be nice, but it just isn't the way life works.(for many people).
In the end, we cannot stop discrimination, but we can change the way we act towards it. We need to talk about it openly and make people aware of what is happening.
I think the road to the 'victim hood mentality' hell, is paved with good intentions.
(I'm a white guy, living in cultures not my own, for three decades or more, and have witnessed discrimination based on race, too many times to count).
So what?
Deal with it.
Don't fall into the I'm a victim because 'they'...'
Giving away your power to 'they' just lowers your own self respect, and will create a diminished 'you', going forwards.
You can only be a victim if you choose to frame it in that way.
Screw 'em.
