Plant the seed of love. It’s really quite simple.
Hate is a taught emotion. Children know nothing
of hate when they are born. It’s the adults that
refuse to let it die, like a virus with no cure or
rotting soil.
Growing up in the early 60s.l knew that this world
was not made for me. When l saw someone on tv
that represented wealth they were white. Super hero’s
Secret agents, animation, the commercials.
Unfortunately it made a really bad impression of what
l could truly become. The greatness in me and of all
God’s children. My dad in a lot of cases
was my knight in shining armor who took nothing off
of anyone. He would often say, you can’t judge a book
by it’s cover. A fool is a fool regardless of what color they are.
Still my son. You will have to work harder
maybe even sacrifice more to make your mark in this world.
The world doesn’t owe you anything because you’re breathing.
Because of the color of your skin it may be assumed that you lack
intelligence or the proper way to speak. But don’t let that turn
into hate. Approach people in every situation with an open mind.
Think before you speak. It is better to be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. That was one of his favorite phrases.
I have a daughter who is now going on twenty. Her mother who is white and l being of Native and Afro American decent have instilled in her that hate comes in many skin tones and so does ignorance.
Let’s plant the seed of love before it’s to late.
