MOMENT OF SEPARATION An icicle is formed when the outside air temperature is below zero degrees, but the sun warms and melts some snow or ice. As it drips off the roof, a drop of water freezes when it loses its heat to the cold air. I took the picture before the moment a drop is separated from the ice.
