"There's no place like home."
I wonder what, whoever coined that quote, was thinking when he/she coined it, but it is widely believed to be true. As I sat at my desk this evening, I came up with something similar, "There's no place like your Base."
Base is home. Base is where you belong. Base is where you feel comfortable, secure, loved, restored, and trusted. Base is where you feel strong and in control. Base is anywhere you can kick your shoes off, metaphorically and physically, and rest your head, safe in the knowledge that you'll be looked after.
Life gets so busy and frantic, and we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, to such an extent that we lose sight of where we thought we were going, and what we thought we were going to do. Base is that place where you were before you got lost.
There comes a time when "home" goes from being a building, to being a person. For you, base could be a person, a best friend from many years ago, who can remind you of how you were before it all got so confusing, or your mom, even a sibling, it could as well as be your lover.
We all need time with people or in places where we can be ourselves, where we don't have to explain, justify, or give a good impression. That's the joy of touching base. Whatever we do, wherever we go, and however far we've gotten, we should remember to touch base.
